Re: 2023 World Championships
I can't think of a more boring and unexciting result for any race than GB winning. For any other country that wins there is always an interesting story to the result and to the crew, for GB it's just "oh yea this is the crew the machine spat out". yawn I'd be disappointed if an Aussie did...

Re: World Championships 2019
Yes, that oar was part of the hull racing. BUT still All video of the first race seems to have been expunged. Olympic channel had coverage of all of Tuesday's racing but I can only find individual races on the FISA website. quarterfinals 1 3 and 4 are available, only 2 has been pulled. I cannot spe...

Re: World Championships 2019
What I find insufferable is how badly every gb men's crew except the eight rows. The four row like J16's Which doesn't say a lot for GER, FRA, NZL, SUI, or EGY! As a coach once said, "it's not dressage". But I do agree that watching a crew move well together is a more beautiful thing than...

Re: Henley Royal Regatta
Anyhoo...without getting too down about the GB squad..what a fantastic regatta it was this year. Brits, US, NZ, NL, Aussies, Germans, Chinese, and others all having something to cheer and disappointments. Sadly for Chris A, some of the most enjoyable and unpredictable racing, as always, was in the P...

For J16s and above there are 8s, 4+, 4-, 2x, 2- and 1x. What's missing?Chris A wrote:
Because they've removed many of the boat classes because of the fetish schools have with eights racing. Yes I'd quite like to see small boats racing and could well do without a race for third eights.

They looked a bit desperate at the end though. Brookes were missing their top guys who were in the GB 4sStewie Griffin Should Cox wrote:The Germans are clear by 500...actually they demolished everyone in 300.

Re: Cracknell to try for the Boat Race
A bit condescending?
Cracknell has a BSc from University of Reading, a PGCE from London University and an MSc from Brunel University.
All reasonably august academic institutions.
With his life experiences...., sport, injury, politics, I'd say he'd make an interesting student for Cambridge.

Re: Henley
It's completely wrong to say it is the worst. It's mid table in UK terms.
Newcastle, London, Imperial, Durham and others have a better academic reputation but not everyone will get the top grades they require.

Yes, graduate students are generally not permitted to compete for US universities. Athletes have 5 years from the date of their initial enrollment to complete 4 years of competition, so the only graduate students are those who missed an undergraduate year of competition or completed their undergrad...
Re: Henley
Are all the athletes in US university crews - Washington, Harvard, Yale, Cal, etc undergraduates?

To coin a phrase...Fake news.rowingtech09 wrote:But Brookes is still only an academic institution in the loosest sense of the word (taking a week off classes would be laughed out of town in the US), their crews are composed of post-grads, and they essentially train full-time.
