Re: No Varsity Rowing in Virginia???

Mobjack, if you could clarify what being on the "approved sports list" means, that would help guide the discussion. If it means that public (and/or private) schools in Virginia cannot "count" the sport in statistics or confer "varsity" labels on the activity, that is ve...

Re: Measuring Gearing

Willy-nilly cutting without the data collection (or intent to collect) to back it up could be considered drastic if you mean it in the experimental context. However, given the fact that all oar manufacturers have played with the concept for decades now, you can't really expect it would not move into...

Re: Measuring Gearing

Does anyone have an equation for measuring gearing that takes blade surface area intoi account? This way, one can compare gearing between various oar types (i.e. FAT2s vs Vortex smoothies). This has been discussed on previous occasions: http://rowingillustrated.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=23...

Re: Empacher NA?

Doyle, you should be the new Empacher sales rep for the USA. You would seriously clean up with your excellent service and knowledge of import/export. And your boat is a dozen years old so you need to buy a new one. May as well do so at dealer prices. Nahh....no interest in boats at the moment, and ...

Re: Empacher NA?

I brought in my own boat from Germany in 2000. Very easy. One ding in the hull, but with that wisdom and experience I would have prepared for that in any subsequent order. Net cost to me above the value of the boat was about $1k. That was about 20% additional expense.

Re: USADA has charged Lance with doping

His decision to refuse USADA arbitration only puts the issue into the brighter public spotlight. It was never going to end otherwise. USADA must now provide proof to UCI, to justify their actions. It is a gamble to depants Tygart on the world stage.

Re: USADA has charged Lance with doping

It's not about Lance Armstrong the clean/dirty competitor. It's about make-it-up-as-you-go-along Travis Tygart. The threshold for "guilt" is now ambiguous. You can't fix what happened with tests "passed" seven years ago. You can, however, make sure that future tests are more effe...

Re: USADA has charged Lance with doping

I would love to see him run them all as a bandit, with a t-shirt that reads, "Suck it, Tygart!"

Re: Letter from Glenn Merry

After reading the letter from Glenn - this was all I could think of: http://youtu.be/5hfYJsQAhl0 Then perhaps a point by point refutation would be in order, no? The tone here of general bickering can be conveniently aggregated, but if you're looping back specifically to the letter, then aim true. I...
