Re: European Championships

Fascinating looking at the race data for the GB M4- They just set a speed and stay there for 2K. Their splits were: 1:34.2 1:34.1 1:34.9 1:34.3 don't think any other crew has that level of consistency Even splitting is the most efficient way to race physiologically. That's just smart pacing. Yeah a...

Re: Filippi “Performance Configuration”

In another thread I remarked that the new F boats seem to have borrowed a lot from Hudson's USP line... convex slides, "train" type wheels, foam-core riggers and foot plates, extra material in the hull thanks to the rigging being so light... My question is - are filippis really worth $20k ...

Looks like the new Italian boat took a lot from the Hudson USP line... Hmm

Re: Picture of the Day

How do you post photos like this while also pinning Norm's rant in another section? It promotes really irresponsible behavior and in the age of "likes", sends the wrong message. PS- Get off my lawn. Looks like it was filmed from the coach/safety boat - lotsa distance between puddles, crew...

Re: Norm's annual cold water rant

We have 3 racing singles with WinTech pontoon adapters on the riggers - we've had similar results - transition from "tub" singles to "fine" singles with pontoons helps. Perhaps makes people a little overconfident for when the pontoons come off, but it was useful during covid shut...

Re: World Rowing Needs To Do Better !

Did I accidentally speak the awkward truth again? Hard to say, rowing, but the Excitable States of America does seem to be an "interesting" place these days - an ageing corpse of a president, a lunatic ex-president who thinks he's the new messiah and so on. My brother, who's pushin...

Re: The Boys in the Boat Movie

Yeah, I'll echo Caustic, too. They were actors who worked pretty hard at learning how to row. Rowing styles were different back then, slides shorter, boats heavier.. The book was better but they usually are. At least the boats, oars, and gates looked "period" - no bowballs.. Somewhere on t...

Re: US Squad and Racing

It's more like a no-confidence vote in the coaching and selection mechanisms. If things are so bad that a challenge entry materializes with any hint of speed, it can stamp a giant F-U on the system. It's a final insult more than a new direction. Another issue is that having a crew preparing for the...

Re: US Squad and Racing

Another way of saying this is: At the world championships, the year before the Olympics, you qualify a BOAT/EVENT (not the actual racing shell) to the next year's Olympics... The crew can be completely replaced, and should be if they're not fastest. At the FOQR, you qualify the CREW in a boat, to th...

You may guess correctly that every clarification or clause in there has been added because some program tried to game the system.
That's true of just about every rule/law everywhere.

Re: Lucerne World Cup

Maybe i'm ignorant but why do the organizers of the two events put them so close together? As fats has mentioned, Henley's been there for a lot longer - but in truth it's a "domestic" regatta despite the presence of crews from all over the world - World Rowing Cup is an international rega...

Re: 1K World Record

The anthropometrics of female athletes changed a little when, in 1984-5 they switched up to 2000 from 1000. IIRC the non-Olympic Worlds, in Montreal featured women at 2k, but it may have been 85. Whatever, the profile went to somewhat leaner, but still strong and tall. And. I asked on one of the oth...
