Experienced Coxswains Wanted in Somerville, MA

Post by mightymouse »

Gentle Giant Rowing Club (GGRC), rowing out of the Blessing of the Bay boathouse in Somerville, MA is seeking experienced coxswains for the 2014 head racing season, culminating in either the Head of the Charles (HOCR) or Head of the Schuylkill. GGRC has an entry in the HOCR Club Women’s 4+ event and the coxswain’s seat is currently vacant!

GGRC is a small, community-driven program with a lot of heart and the ability to pull hard. The team has experienced an increase in membership this year and is in need of experienced coxswains to train and race with our dedicated open and masters athletes. Ideal candidates would be available to participate in weekday practices and weekend regattas for a total of two to four sessions per week.

GGRC practices Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays at either 5:30 a.m. – 7:00 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and GGRC’s 2014 head racing schedule includes:

9/20 - Head of the Mystic – Somerville, MA
9/27 - Head of the Merrimack – Methuen, MA
10/5 - Textile Regatta – Lowell, MA
10/12 - New Hampshire Championships - Pembroke, NH
10/19 - Head of the Charles - Boston, MA
10/26 - Head of the Schuylkill - Philadelphia, PA

If you are interested in joining a crew where you can have an immediate impact on our athletes, continue to grow your individual skills, and compete for the coxswain’s seat in a HOCR boat, please contact mlwalker79@gmail.com.
