Re: Power 8 Sprints
I won the DAF power sprints eights race. The previous incarnation of this idea. Ironically it was also in Bristol Dock.
I suspect this is being pushed in response to various ex athletes suggestions.
We also have a “Champions League” in Frankfurt that next to no one turned up to last year. And remember there was also the sculling spring event that had to be cancelled because no one entered.
I know I sound cynical. But this is history repeating itself.
And yes I know that in the old days 10’s of thousands turned out to see the professional scullers race. But there was betting and there was little in the way of alternatives

Re: Power 8 Sprints
Holding it during the harbour festival is a problem. There'll be a ton of pleasure boats about and the harbour walls are vertical concrete. Could be messy.
Re: Power 8 Sprints
The DAF sprints worked for as long as it had a sponsor and TV coverage. IMHO as this appears to have neither, it is doomed to failure.
TV coverage and commercial sponsorship meant there was the incentive in terms of publicity and prizes to take part.
The DAF sprints also had a better format based around clubs whereas no one has any great allegiance to their divisions.

Re: Power 8 Sprints
There's a reasonable length article on the BBC and live TV coverage....not bad if you ask me for the first time the event has been run. Plus, as its part of the Bristol Harbour Festival (which I know from personal experience is a fabulous and v popular event) I think it'll be pretty goodStewie Griffin Should Cox wrote:So these are tomorrow
