Size of Market

Post by bow1 »

Hi, I was curious if anyone knew how many new boats are built and sold each year, and the impact of Covid on the size of the rowing market. Does World Rowing track anything like this?

1. Just curious in the size of the global boat market
2. Has Covid pushed any of our boat manufacturers to the edge of bankruptcy?
3. What share of the market do each of the different manufacturers have?

In about 2017 I heard of the following
Fillippi 1000+
Empacher 600
Hudson 400

Certainly a lot more manufacturers than that. Swift, Wintech etc must be pumping out a lot

I am unsure why World Rowing would have access to numbers of a boat company

Numbers for the most part are down and now just starting to climb as rowing slowly returns to normal.

Those numbers are guarded pretty closely by these privately held companies. I know in New Haven, things hit a dead stop for a while but then between singles, doubles, and pairs, the volume skyrocketed. Probably the same in Canada and Bridgeport.

Wasn't Empacher for sale a few years ago? What ever happened with that?

I heard the price was too high. There was even a rumor on Filippi being for sale a few years back as well.
