Junior Coaching Carousel

Post by lt.wolf »

Wilson Head Coach Joe McMullins contract was not renewed after making an insensitive comment about a young boys death.

Wilson had a dab and dives hype from Rowers Choice this past year.

If you believe reddit chatter, sounds like that was one of several indicators there wasn't a great environment there, despite the success.

So throw that spot in along with some other heavy hitter programs with openings - PNRA Mercer and Pelham both looking for head coaches on the women's side, and Saugatuck and Greenwich looking for assts.

There are plenty more, lot of openings still, just like the collegiate ranks, with programs starting up in just a couple weeks.

His comment was: "This kid stole a boat with his buddy and paid the ultimate price!" (underneath a photo of the boy who drowned, presumably from falling overboard one of the Thompson's launches)

I wonder if he left the exclamation mark off if it would have been seen as simply a statement of fact. With the exclamation mark it comes off as joy for the final outcome. As a youth rowing coach you can't be representing that no matter how frustrated you might be at a theft.

Did the kid steal a boat with his buddy and pay the ultimate price?

Maybe it works better with a question mark.

A sad situation, let’s try and keep it to the carousel.

*An edit, at the time of the incident , Joe McMullin was not under contract with the school and the school and board decided to not renew. Everyone was impacted by the situation.
