How much of that is format, and how much is just differences in prep/peaking? There were other situations where Sprints results were direct head to head and margins still flipped for IRA. I do think the Sprints setup is imperfect, but if seeding was perfect we wouldn't run the races

You're not wrong. And to account for peaking, etc., I think time trials is a great compromise for fair seeding of either heats or semis.

Obviously if any race needs it, Crew Classic desperately needs time trials.
