Re-sleeving oars - Adhesive

Post by kambo »

Hi

We're planning in my club to start resleeving oars ourselves. Concept2 suggests using a two-part polyurethane glue, which I am at least struggling a bit finding in europe.

So far, I have come across people using a lot of different types adhesive. I even talked to a boatbuilder who always uses a one-part urethane rubber, which doesn't necesarily makes sense in my eyes, since it reacts with moisture in the air and there is not much air within a sleeve. I saw one in here, who used a hot glue gun.
I can of course use a lot of different adhesives, but eventually that will have to get removed when they need to get resleeved again. So it doesn't make sense to use something that will be impossible to remove.

The question:
What are you using?
And is it easy to remove?

What is your general experience with this?

Have a nice weekend.

West's System epoxy resin modified with their Microlight additive to peanut butter consistency.

Drill a 1/8" hole in each end of the sleeves and inject the epoxy with one of their little syringes after you install the sleeves.

Set the pitch to exactly what it was before you removed the old sleeves using a digital level or set them to your desired new pitch and let them cure overnight at least.

I had Cardiac Catheter Ablation. I was in totally asymptomatic, (Apple Watch alerted me) persistent, Atrial Flutter and, post Ablation, I am in persistent sinus rhythm, knock on wood!
Know your A1c and your heart rhythm.

I just used West System's Six10 thickened epoxy adhesive.

I liked it.

It comes in a caulking tube which makes it easy to use...

Thanks for your replies.

When you eventually have to re-sleeve once again. Is the glue easy to remove?

How many pairs of sculls can you go through with that 190 mL Six10?
