The previous AD, Bill Jergens, was a former rower at another Florida school (Jacksonville University). The fact that rowing was cut the year after he left makes me think he was the reason they hadn't been cut for so long, and as soon as he stepped down, there it goes.

There is no doubt that Bill Jurgens was a staunch supporter of FIT rowing. He was the first men’s head coach in 1969 and became AD in 1976. He helped grow the number of varsity sports at FIT as AD, retiring in 2020. FIT men were very successful at the Dad Vail Regatta and Jurgens is still on the board of directors. I got to know him fairly well through his friendship with USCGA head coach Bill Stowe.

We may be looking at just the beginning of new cuts again here in Olympic sports because of NIL, which was a big part of the reason cited by the LMU AD.
