Youth Nationals 2021

Post by lt.wolf »

I am hearing it is being planned ,it might have a slightly different look to it , more open , more age group racing due to limited qualifying events. All rumors and can likely change.

Curious if the rumors are still just rumors or have waxed/waned in strength. U15/U17 nationals are the week immediately prior, so if Youth Natls goes to age group racing...will it be U18/U19 at Youths?

I have only inquired on Youth Nationals. As far as I know there is still a plan in place for June, Masters Nationals as well as Club Nationals are being worked through as well.

No lightweight events...paralleling USRowings move to axe lightweight events from Indoors/Crash B, can we say this is the end?

“ With Covid-19 infection rates rising and the vaccination rollout still a work in progress, it was important to develop a plan for this year's Youth National Championships that addressed the high probability that either no, or a limited number of, regional championships and qualification regattas would be able to take place. With this uncertainty, the 2021 USRowing Youth National Championships will have an open entry process that does not require qualification. This change is only being implemented for the 2021 regatta, with the intent to return to the qualification structure in 2022. We are still fine-tuning the details to ensure that all regions and their programs will have an opportunity to enter the events of their choosing. That process will be announced as part of the final entry packet that will be published on March 1, 2021.”

While I like to believe it will be age category entries for just this year, I suspect Covid will provide the excuse to remove lightweight rowing from Youth Nationals

Open entries will help fill the field as needed, “red” states will have quite the advantage in team boats. The single and double racing could be quite competitive, the eights and fours not so much.

I do hope the powers that be consider replacing the coxed four with the straight four.

The shenanigans are so sad because the stakes are so small.

I hope the clubs who have been rowing and training in eights the whole time will be proud of their success when they take home all the sweep medals.

Remember, you can only race who shows up.

Now if a club from the NE shows up to Youth Nationals and wins the eight then that coach will need a nice raise and bonus. I am thinking the only one who could pull this off would be the Saugatuck junior women.
