Cuse over NU by 6 seconds. Still early but wow. Hell of a result for the Orange

That is good for Cuse, also Wisco nips BU.

6:17.353 to 6:17.397 is a pretty small nip...

A win is a win , by 6 seconds or by the smallest margins .

Hearing Covid may have played Into the BU / Wisco race. Not confirmed

2021 Windermere Cup
Washington vs Cal
Montlake Cut | Seattle, WA | May 1, 2021[/b]

Men
Varsity: - UW > Cal
UW: 5:42.3
Cal: 5:47.0

JV: UW > Cal
UW: 5:45.8
Cal: 5:51.5

3V: Cal > UW*
Cal: 5:52.6
UW: 5:59.2

*UW 3V stroke caught a boat-stopping crab at the start (poor fella) . Huskies emptied the tank trying to catch up in the first 500, but couldn't close the gap and flagged thereafter, Cal extending their lead. Hard to tell how things would have played out, gaffes aside, but that's part of rowing and Cal looked composed. Pac-12s should be interesting.

Initial Observations:

-Was strange to see the Windermere Cup held without the log boom stretching out into Lake Washington, dozens of boats lining the coarse and people packing the 'Cut. That said, Callahan's crew has really improved their drone coverage/production quality over the past few years. Was great to see this streamed live, and once the audio issues get workout out (engine noise made it difficult to hear commentary) it'll be a great way to watch remotely.

-The course now has buoy lines, which might hamper some of the shenanigans of yesteryear, where boats liked to get ahead and wake adversaries a bit. Overall a good improvement.

-Particularly great to see the Cal Dual fill in for the typical national crews who attend. Obviously one of the great historic rowing rivalries in the country, so good on the coaches for putting this together for the athletes, their families and spectators.

-Cal came out, as always, with extremely aggressive starts, trying to get ahead and stay ahead. Never a bad tactic for dual racing. Washington, had reasonably fast starts but looked to focus on a composed, upright style, making moves towards the middle 500s to walk through.

Plus ça change...

Syracuse had quite the visit to Boston, leaving BU, NU and Wisco in their wake. Should jump up In the standings to either 2 or 3 ?

Tough times for the Penn heavies if I’m reading their recap right. Looks like their boatings were:

1V - heavy 1V (3rd, behind Temple & Drexel)
2V - light 1V (1st, 9 seconds faster than heavy 1V)
3V - light 2V (1st, also faster than heavy 1V)
V4s - light 3v (2nd)
4V - heavy 2V (1st)
5V - light 4V, heavy 3V (3rd and 4th)

No idea what their covid situation is like obviously, but the fact that the lights don’t appear impacted at all suggests it’s not because guys aren’t on campus.

Pton 10 sec over Navy. Do they slot in at #3?

Cuse looked much more dynamic than NU, but the huskies put up better margins vs WIS/BU. :?:

Right now , I am listing top 5 as

UW
Cuse
Cal
NU
PRI

I might throw the UW women V8 in the top 15 of the men’s poll , very very impressive .

So you think the 15th place men's crew would be more than 46 seconds behind UW's men's V8?
At the Windermere Cup, the UW men won with a time of 5:42, and the women won 15 minutes later with a 6:28....
The men's field is a little deeper than that, even in this diminished year.
