Anyone know what the conditions are like at Wheeler? I have never been there. Are the lanes fair?

Is it just me, or does it seem like they have the expected faster crews in the higher numbered lanes? The odds of Tennessee, Penn and Syracuse being in lanes 4, 5, 6 and 7 for most (all?) of their races is pretty slim if these are supposedly random draws.

Interesting results in the V8 at Wheeler compared to last week at Big Ten Invite.
Does this put Rutgers (and Michigan who beat Rutgers)ahead of Syracuse and Penn, and Indiana ahead of Penn?

Wheeler -
Tenn. 6:23.438
Penn. 6:28.524. +5.086
Syracuse. 6.30.235. +6.797

Big Ten Invite a week ago
Tenn. 6:23.176
Rutgers. 6:28.126. +4.950
Indiana. 6:29.954. +6.778

Margins within acceptable range of environmental variance. I'd still rank Penn head of that pack. Rutgers and Cuse maybe together, and then Indiana behind them. But at this point in the season, I'm just throwing darts.

I'd guess the Tennessee V8 finishes in the top half of the B final at least, dark horse to make the bottom half of the A final. They'll have to race Texas in less than a month, so that will be the ultimate arbiter of their NCAA seeding. At this point they're a shoo-in for an at-large selection.

Lanes are fair. Media launch is off lane 7, so the flights are slanted away to allow the launch to stay with the leaders and not wake the rest of the field.

Chart where the PM races are left-shifted with Tennessee aligned, showing Penn a little closer, Syracuse a little further back. WSU, Duke, Alabama in the second group. Tomorrow morning, some resolution: Tenn/WSU/Alabama at 11:10 and Penn/Syracuse/Duke at 11:20

The Stanford V4 was only 8 seconds and change slower than the UVA 2V8 at the longhorn invite. That’s pretty nuts.

Well we have a new number 1 with Texas beating Stanford. I won’t read into the times too much because I heard it was a shorter course.

Will be interesting to watch Cal and Stanford next weekend to get a better comparison of places 1-6.

That is some extremely rare enlightened thinking for the sport of rowing. Kudos to whoever is organizing the event.

We see that every once in awhile at Quinsigamond. The shape of the lake means the video boat is always on the Shrewsbury shore. Easterly winds flip the course and everyone gets a much better view of what's going on with the lead crews. Drones sometime in the near future?
